چکیده
METHODS AJÕ the tumors1 were received as subcutaneous transplants on OSH mice. On the llth day after inoculation the animals were sacrificed, and the tumors were explanted under sterile conditions. The cultures .were explanted in Carrel flasks, roller tubes, or coverslips. The best .results were obtained with expiants cultivated in Carrel flasks. Depending on the method used there were differ ences in the intensity of growth; the growth type, however, remained the same. . The experiments described in this paper were conducted in Carrel flasks. Thà ẗumors studied in this investigation were the following: MCIM/AS, MCIM/SS, MCIA/AS,, MCIA/SS. Ten samples of each of the tumors were used for each transfer. The tumor-bearing animals were killed, and the skin covering the tumors was dehaired with sulfide and then treated with medicinal iodine. The tumors were carefully excised, and ten very thin slices of each, measuring approximately 1X2 mm, were immersed into Tyrode solution. Single expiants were placed on the bottom of a Carrel flask together with a drop of chicken plasma and fixed with the aid of a cataract knife. To accelerate the coagulation of the plasma, the drop was then touched with the tip of a knife previously treated

The development of an ascites tumor from a transplant
able squamous cell carcinoma of mouse was reported several years ago (9). It appeared then to be the only reported instance of an experimental adaptation of a squa mous cell carcinoma to an ascitic form of growth. Be cause this ascites tumor consisted of a highly anaplastic cellular population, which differed markedly from defi nitely squamous components of the parent solid tumor, more work was...
متن کاملRelationship of contact inhibition to tumor transplantability, morphology, and growth rate.
Sublines of B7K21 hamster cells were derived by treatment with 5-fluoro-2 -deoxyuridine. These sublines demonstrated increased contact inhibition in vitro. The tumors resulting from injection of these sublines were examined, and cells from the tumors were returned to culture. Sublines with increased contact inhibition were less efficient at initiating tumors. All tumors, however, had an identic...
متن کاملAn electron microscopic study of the leukemia virus in AKR and hybrid mice inoculated with ascites passage or tissue-cultured leukemic cells.
Various organs and tumors from AKR and hybrid mice and leukcmic cells grown in tissue culture were studied by electron microscopy. Only spleen and thymus were examined in fetuses and newborn mice. In adults, solid tumors, lymph nodes, and ascites cells were also studied. AKR mice dying of spontaneous leukemia showed typical virus particles (Types A and C) in their lymph nodes. No virus particle...

ityisnotabsolute. The blood group Tand MN antigens are also found on the surface of TA3-Ha ascites mammary adenocarcinoma cells (26, 28) and can be released from these cells by proteolysis to give large sialoglycopeptides (5). It has been postulated that the presence of sialoglycoprotein at the cell surface masks histocompatibility antigens and permits transplantation of TA3Ha cells across stra...
متن کاملComparative transfer RNA methylase capacity in mouse ascites tumors and in their derived tumorigenic and nontumorigenic cell cultures.
The transfer RNA (tRNA) methylase activity from two types of mouse ascites tumor cells (TA3 adenocarcinoma and 6C3HED lymphosarcoma) was compared to that of derived tumorigenic and nontumorigenic cultured cells of the same cell types. The nontumorigenic cells had lost their ability to produce tumors on back transplantation by extended passage in cell culture. The two ascites cell types differed...
